AI Social Media Post Layout to Render: Ratios, Type, Crop
Turn a social post layout into a render-ready prompt: feed ratios, short on-image type, and crops from poster or flyer drafts on PromptMake.
Render readable text on the image
Poster, flyer, or infographic layouts with titles that stay sharp. One credit per render.
Try AI Poster GeneratorSearchers type "AI social media post generator" when they want a square or portrait feed frame with a short hook, not a 40-line Canva template. I've been that searcher on a launch week. This guide is the layout-to-render path: pick a ratio, cap on-image type to a few words, write hierarchy, then render or crop from a poster or flyer you already like. Soft tools when you're ready for pixels: https://promptmake.net/ai-poster-generator, https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator, https://promptmake.net/ai-youtube-thumbnail-generator. There's no separate /ai-social-post-generator slug yet. Use the matching job page and crop. Don't invent one in your notes either.
What "social post" means in a prompt
A social post here is a single raster for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or a Stories still. It's not a carousel planner, not a caption writer, and not a scheduler. Your prompt owns the visual. Your caption lives in the publishing app. Mixing those jobs in one box is how you get mushy paragraphs painted onto a latte photo. I've shipped that mush. I'm not proud of it.
I treat feed posts as short-type cousins of posters. Same title / mid / footer habit, fewer mid rows. Hierarchy guide if you need the shared recipe: https://promptmake.net/blog/readable-text-hierarchy-ai-image-prompts. Older ratio notes: https://promptmake.net/blog/social-media-ai-image-prompts. You'll reuse those habits more than you'll reuse any "viral" adjective list.
Ratios that actually ship
Pick the slot before the adjectives. Wrong ratio wastes the first credit every time. I still do that when I'm rushing. Don't copy me on that part.
- Feed square: 1:1. Cap type hard. One hook, one subline max.
- Feed portrait: 4:5. Slightly more room for a mid row. Still short.
- Stories / Reels cover: 9:16. Treat like a mini poster. Title top, CTA low.
- LinkedIn / X wide: 16:9 or 1.91:1. One line of type or none. Photo can lead.
- YouTube still for community posts: reuse thumbnail habits at 16:9. Soft path: https://promptmake.net/ai-youtube-thumbnail-generator.
If you've already rendered a 3:4 poster, crop to 4:5 or 1:1 in a phone editor. Regenerating from scratch for every platform burns credits. Keep the master tall; cut down. You'll save the pack for real copy changes.
Type budgets by ratio
Square: 3-6 words on-image. Portrait feed: up to two short lines. Stories: title plus one footer CTA. Wide frames: often zero type, or a single watermark-style line. When you need a schedule and prices, you're writing a flyer. Use the flyer page, then crop a detail for the feed: https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator.
Color and contrast on small screens
Name contrast in the prompt: "cream title on deep navy". Soft pastels on soft photos die on a subway phone. High contrast isn't a style preference here. It's survival. Proof the PNG at the width of your own hand.
Layout-to-render workflow
Start from a sketch or from a poster you already like. Don't start from "make me a viral post". Viral isn't a layout instruction. Hook plus ratio is. I say that in every kickoff now because someone always types viral anyway.
From a blank brief
- Write the hook in quotes. Keep it under six words.
- Decide if you need a mid fact (date, price, "new") or nothing.
- Add a quiet footer only if the brand URL matters on-image.
- Lock ratio. Paste into the poster or image generator with that aspect named early.
- Soft render: https://promptmake.net/ai-image-generator or https://promptmake.net/ai-poster-generator for type-heavy frames.
From an existing poster or flyer
- Open the tall render.
- Crop to 4:5 or 1:1 so the title band stays inside the safe area.
- If the crop kills a price row you need, regenerate with fewer mid rows at the target ratio instead of stretching type.
- Optional: Image to Prompt on the crop if you want a dialect for another model: https://promptmake.net/image.
I've cropped more posters into feed frames than I've regenerated from scratch. That's the cheap path. Use it.
From a reference photo
Attach the photo. Say "subject lower third, clear type field above". Quote the hook. Don't ask the model to invent a paragraph of brand story on top of a busy street shot. It'll try. You'll hate the result. I did, twice, same week.
Weak vs tight social prompt
Same product drop. Two prompts. Only hierarchy and ratio change.
Weak
"Amazing AI social media post for our new sneaker drop, viral, ultra detailed, trendy typography, Instagram aesthetic"
You get a glossy shoe and melted lettering. No size, no date, no CTA. Fine for a moodboard. Useless as a launch still.
Tight
"Square social post, 1:1. Bold sans title at top reading \"DROP FRIDAY\". Thin mid line reading \"Ink Runner · $140\". Quiet footer reading \"link in bio\". High-contrast white type on charcoal, product photo lower half, clear margins, flat modern layout."
Swap the quotes. Keep the bands. Soft path for type-forward frames: https://promptmake.net/ai-poster-generator. For denser promo lists, draft on https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator then crop.
Platform notes without template spam
Instagram feed still rewards face or product plus short type. LinkedIn rewards clearer benefit lines and calmer palettes. TikTok/Reels covers behave like Stories: vertical, one idea. YouTube community images behave like thumbnails: one subject, short hook. Soft thumbnail workflow: https://promptmake.net/blog/youtube-thumbnail-prompt-to-render-workflow, plus https://promptmake.net/youtube-thumbnail-prompt for Midjourney-style prompt text only.
Don't invent a dedicated social-post product URL in your content plan until the product exists. Point people at the job they actually have: poster, flyer, thumbnail, or generic image generate.
Prompt kits by network
Instagram 4:5: "Portrait social post, 4:5. Bold sans title at top reading \"OPEN SAT\". Mid line reading \"Tasting flight $28\". Footer reading \"maps link in bio\". Product photo lower half, cream on charcoal, clear margins."
LinkedIn 1.91:1: "Wide social graphic. Short bold line centered reading \"Ship the brief\". Soft office photo blurred behind a dark band, high-contrast white type, no paragraph text, no fake charts."
Stories 9:16: "Vertical story still, 9:16. Title top reading \"TONIGHT 19:00\". Quiet mid reading \"Door $15\". Footer CTA reading \"tickets in bio\". High contrast, subject in lower third, type clear above."
Swap only the quotes. Keep the ratio clause. If a kit needs a full price list, you drifted back into flyer territory. That's fine. Render the flyer, then crop. Soft flyer door: https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator.
Caption vs on-image (stop mixing them)
On-image carries the hook a stranger sees while scrolling with sound off and captions collapsed. The publishing caption carries the URL, the jokes, the hashtags you still insist on, and the hours nobody can read at 120px. When you paint the caption onto the image, you get mush and you still rewrite the caption later. Split the jobs. Your future self will be less annoyed.
Crop checklist from a tall master
Keep one tall master (3:4 or 9:16). Cut platforms from it. Regenerating a brand-new square for every network is how credit packs vanish on a quiet Wednesday. I've done that vanish. It's dumb. Don't.
- Mark the title band. That band must survive every crop.
- Decide which mid facts are feed-critical. Usually one. Hide the rest in the caption.
- Crop 4:5 first (Instagram). Then 1:1 from the same master if you need it.
- For Stories, either use the 9:16 master as-is or regenerate with fewer rows. Stretching 1:1 into 9:16 looks cheap. Don't.
- Export sRGB. Weird wide-gamut exports shift cream-on-navy into mud on some phones.
If the master is a flyer with six hour rows, accept that the feed crop will show title + price only. Link "full hours in bio" in the caption. Fighting to keep all six rows on a square is how glyphs die.
Safe zones worth respecting
Stories UI eats the bottom and top edges. Keep hooks away from the lower fifth. Profile grids punish tiny type in the corner of a 1:1. Center-weighted hooks survive the grid thumbnail. Edge-hugging scripts do not.
LinkedIn compression is rude to thin serifs. Prefer bold sans on that network even if your poster master used a display serif. You can ask for "bold sans title" in a crop-sized regenerate without rebuilding the whole campaign palette.
Example week for a small shop
Monday: render a 3:4 lunch special flyer on https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator with prices and hours. Tuesday: crop title + price into 4:5 for Instagram. Wednesday: 9:16 Story with title + "$12 bowl" + footer URL only. Thursday: if the special changes, edit the quoted price string and spend one credit. Friday: leave the hours stack alone unless they changed.
That week costs a handful of credits, not twenty. The hierarchy work happens once. The crops are free in any phone editor. I'd rather you spend thinking time on the Monday brief than on Friday panic adjectives. You'll ship more posts that way. I do.
Credits and honesty
Browsing landings and examples is free. Renders spend image credits. Packs start at 20; Pro+ adds a monthly allotment. Credits from packs don't expire. Full pricing: https://promptmake.net/pricing. PromptMake isn't a free unlimited social post factory. Say that up front so nobody feels baited.
Common mistakes
Paragraph on the image. Captions belong in the caption field. On-image type is a hook.
Regenerating per platform. Crop from a tall master when you can.
Chasing "viral" adjectives. Ratio, hook, contrast. That's the job.
Using flyer density in a 1:1. Prices and eight hours need a flyer sheet, then a crop.
Ignoring safe zones. Keep important type out of the bottom UI chrome on Stories.
FAQ
Is there an AI social media post generator on PromptMake?
There's no dedicated /ai-social-post-generator page yet. Use https://promptmake.net/ai-image-generator for general frames, https://promptmake.net/ai-poster-generator for type-heavy feed posts, https://promptmake.net/ai-flyer-generator for promo density, and crop to ratio. That's the current product truth.
What ratio should I start with for Instagram?
4:5 if you want a taller feed presence. 1:1 if you need maximum crop flexibility later. 9:16 for Stories covers. Name the ratio in the first sentence of the prompt.
How much text can I put on a feed image?
Aim for under six words on 1:1. Two short lines on 4:5. Longer schedules belong on a flyer render, then crop a detail. Small screens punish greed.
Can I reuse a poster as a social post?
Yes. Crop the title band into 4:5 or 1:1. If a mid price row falls outside the crop, regenerate at the target ratio with fewer rows instead of squeezing.
Do renders cost credits?
Yes. Examples and browsing are free. Each image render spends credits from packs or Pro+. See https://promptmake.net/pricing.
Where do I get Midjourney-ready prompt text instead of a PNG?
Use https://promptmake.net/image or the model pages under /for when you need paste text. Come back to Generate when you want PromptMake pixels.
How does this differ from the hierarchy guide?
https://promptmake.net/blog/readable-text-hierarchy-ai-image-prompts teaches title / mid / footer for any type-heavy sheet. This article applies that habit to feed ratios, type budgets, and crop-from-poster workflows.
